Honda Patents Updated Africa Twin Design in India

March 15th, 2024

Honda Patents Updated Africa Twin Design in India
Honda has recently patented the design of the updated Africa Twin lineup in India, including both the standard model and the Adventure Sports variant. The Adventure Sports variant features a more road-biased 19-inch front wheel, along with redesigned front fascia and side panels. However, it is unlikely that the base variant will be launched in the Indian market.

Design and Power Updates for 2024 Africa Twin
The 2024 Africa Twin showcases a refreshed face with sharper front and side panels. Additionally, there's a slight increase in the engine's compression ratio, resulting in a peak torque of 112Nm at 5,500rpm, compared to the current 103Nm at 6,250rpm. The European version offers an adjustable seat height between 835-855mm, although it's uncertain if this feature will be retained for the Indian market, where the Africa Twin typically comes with a lowered suspension setting resulting in a 810-830mm seat height.

Protection of Intellectual Property
Honda's patenting of the base model in India appears to be a safeguarding measure for its intellectual property. In India, only the Adventure Sports variant has been available since the Africa Twin's engine capacity increased from 998cc to 1,083cc. Honda has also patented designs of other models like the Forza 350 maxi-scooter, Hawk 11 cafe racer, and the CBR250RR sportbike in India, despite having no plans to introduce these models in the country.

Expected Price Adjustment
With the anticipated changes and updates, a price increase is expected for the new Africa Twin Adventure Sports. Currently, the Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports is priced between Rs 16.02 – 17.56 lakh (ex-showroom, Haryana), indicating a potential adjustment with the launch of the updated model.
